It seems like you’ve touched on epigenetics. This will be an important feature in the future because it outlines the long-term physical consequences of residual oppression, which flies in the face of the color-blind, ‘racism is over’ type of collective response, more like a hallucination to many of us shocked POC”s watching.
Pretending these long-term consequences don’t exist is a preemptive economic strike, and as such it reveals the heart of white supremacy: if the disparity isn’t there, than neither is the need to move money, which is the ultimate bottom line. Of course, to fix these disparities, money will need to be moved from the group that has (stole) the MOST to the group that hasn’t gotten paid yet.
I wonder what sort of creative steps will be taken to avoid acknowledging these disparities WHEN the rubber hits the road: when it’s time to distribute resources more fairly. Will we still be discussing them, or will the larger majority find a way to pretend altered gene expression was never altered, the same way they seem to shirk so much other responsibility through white ‘ignorance’?
