It is really difficult witnessing this year’s final Democratic candidates. Each time I see people of color running, I actually start to believe that we may be moving towards actual equality. How silly of me.
Here we are in December, and all 4 Democratic candidates are white. Note how every single one of them subverts discussions about race to discussions about economics. This is despite the fact that, as a group, white people continue to hold the greatest number of financial resources. Yet, the primary discussion point is almost always about poor white people.
2020 will be yet another year where I drag myself to the polls simply to pick the lesser of two evils.
Realistically, are any of these candidates — Democratic or Republican — truly interested in prioritizing the one issue upon which American government was based? The invention of race, and the binary which continues to reward whites as a group at the expense of black, brown, and indigenous peoples, is a problem whites as a group invented, benefit from, and continue to ignore so as to avoid giving up their power and stuff.
I agree: none of these candidates really care, and that’s why — as Marley points out — they all smell like s***.
